Theme of Diploma: Urban Park. Decomposing and restructuring the old site of Academy of Sports in Athens, into a public interactive park for outdoors activities.
The Municipality of Dafnis in Athens is a "closed" built-up region limited between other built-up regions of other Municipalities without possibility of growth and extension. The intention of this project is the localisation of spaces that might be developed for the extension of habitants and improvement of their quality of life. The space of Gymnastics Academy is the suitable choice for our own proposal. The concept is to remove the facilities of the Academy and reduce the space in urban park. So we create three areas-linear that are created as continuity of grid of city into the site. Each area contains also a different activity and for each of them are designed footbridges that leads to buildings incorporated in the ground.
Some of the buildings are part of history of the Academy of Sports so they become part of the proposal as they are. Thus we propose the oldest building (1967) for Museum of Academy of Sports. but also for the transitory exhibitions of Municipality. The swimming pool will be used exclusive by the residents of Municipality. Also is proposed to change the building that incorporates the amphitheatre of the Faculty into municipal theatrical scene. In our proposal is included also the designing of the building that will accommodate the Arts&Crafts Centre of Municipality. All the buildings, old and new accept an uniform confrontation so that they will function as a group that has been extended horizontal in the environment creating platforms and squares for the outdoors detonation of residents. The visitors, beyond the cultural and athletic activities have also the possibility of walking in open free spaces of green that occupy the 60% of total extent of the project site. This because above all we wanted to change the site into a space of oxygen and recreation that so much the residents of Municipality need.
